Adult moral reasoning Free Essays

For a scholarly Fowler’s structure could be the following â€Å"big thing† as far as genuine hypothetical situations on the arrangement of ethical quality and good thinking and the substance of confidence. In a human viewpoint, Fowler effectively endeavored to give an image that represents and controls both the individual being considered and the onlooker/researcher by means of the stages (Berger, 1994). In spite of the fact that these stages are not as unequivocally relevant to all people, as different clinicians, for example, Erikson and Maslow, Fowler’s significant commitment clearly is more than development of Kohlberg or Piaget. We will compose a custom exposition test on Grown-up moral thinking or then again any comparative point just for you Request Now His very own excursion, long and inside and out examination has given him a strong reason to take a shot at (Berger, 1994). My own excursion may most likely be depicted intently in the point of view which is portrayed by Fowler. I don’t have a lot of understanding and enough intelligent ability and grant to be in the situation to do a careful scrutinize on the hypothesis and scholar. Be that as it may, since it is an individual reaction paper, there is one portion that I can genuinely say that talks a great deal about who I am and my own excursion. For example, confidence and profound quality are unpredictably interlaced similarly as confidence, morals and qualities are practically interchangeable (Berger, 1994). Fowler might be right somewhat in crediting explicit ideas which to be sure are graphic of general encounters (Berger, 1994), and I can't contend with this scholar on this issue. It is inside and out critical to me that people must come to holds with the impacts of individual confidence on lead and dynamic procedure, and such issues as close to home needs. It is the point at which an individual chooses to focus on what might be ascribed as a magical Being (i.e., in the origination of God) that spells a distinction to that person’s perspective or lifestyle. I might at present want to contend with Fowler that he has decreased such a great amount to a scholarly clarification something which can't be clarified since there is a distinction (in my point of view and comprehension) between unimportant information on God and genuine otherworldliness. I for one don’t like it when erudite people and savants settle to â€Å"study God† or profound quality and leaving from genuine meaningful and groundbreaking confidence. Reference: Berger, K. S. Throwing Aside the Shackles :: Personal Narrative Essay Example

Tossing Aside the Shackles of My Life   In the unlimited wanderings of public activity comes no course, no reason, and a profound, spreading void. Through the considerations of others there is no development, and carrying on with the existence banished and authorized by our relatives is the way to which we kick the bucket unfilled, lost passings, representing nothing. From the general public of others spring the considerations and the activities of those by who the request was made. A man may carry on with as long as he can remember walking through the show as each other man does, and never think contemplations about his own, creative or new.   However in a brief timeframe nature strips away all that is banished, gets over the shell that is the life of another, and soon enough a man may find what is his own in the midst of the prepared activities abandoned. Nature is ever restoring, and ever new. Inside a brief timeframe away from the wiles of interminably unaltering, unceasingly alleviating innovation, a man may find that from inside himself come cautious considerations, examinations of life, and ends unreached in the perpetual, trivial path of society.   For quite a long time I meandered through life, away from myself, the same in kind to the man close to whom I worked. In thought, in real life, in all that I did I resembled the hundreds preceding me, and the hundreds who will follow. The most unique thing I at any point thought to do was to escape everything, to toss aside an incredible shackles, with the information that in any case in years nothing will have veered off from the state which it was in before I left. It was uniquely after coming, being with and of nature, that I started to acknowledge how inane it had been, the manner by which my spirit had shouted out. It was simply after my constrained portion of one hour somewhere down in the core of nature that I saw what was happening to my life, and understood that it was nothing.   Like the drops of downpour off the petals of a rose are the lives of men from the pages of the book of life. Every come and in itself might be delightful, however it is actually as the last. Sparkling faintly in the sifted sun, it drops away and isn't recalled, as the following can be envisioned. Before long the rose is soaked, yet the drops keep on coming, tumbling down the foreordained streams, making the same old thing.

Left Brain vs Right Brain: Implications of Learning Essay

A left-cerebrum prevailing person’s qualities are not quite the same as that of a right-brained individual. This distinction makes these two gatherings have diverse learning styles. A left-mind prevailing will in general be better at spelling and math. This is on the grounds that this individual can see the entirety of the pieces. A right-mind predominant individual tends be better at composing, science, and different hands on subjects. A left-cerebrum prevailing individual can get addresses. A right-cerebrum predominant individual improves within reach on exercises. It is significant for him to find and utilize the learning style that encourages them to succeed scholastically. Reserved is believed to be brought about by cerebrum predominance. The best way to defeat being withdrawn is by the individual going out and making themselves awkward. Left Brain versus Right Brain: Implications of Learning For an understudy to adapt successfully, he should not just comprehend which learning style is the best for him, however he should comprehend the properties his mind strength plays. Left-cerebrum predominant understudies are regularly progressively effective with subjects, for example, math and science. A right-cerebrum prevailing understudy is bound to prevail in subjects like shop, science, and different hands-on classes. This is on the grounds that cerebrum predominance assists with deciding the student’s learning style. To completely comprehend the left-cerebrum prevailing individual, the qualities should initially be comprehended. By seeing these attributes the left-mind prevailing individual can be completely comprehend. As per On Purpose Associates (2012) the left-cerebrum prevailing individual is â€Å"logical, successive, balanced, investigative, goal, and takes a gander at parts† (para. 2). A left-cerebrum predominant individual is intelligent. They tend not to concoct inventive approaches to fix an issue. The result of this is the individual is restricted in answers for fix the issue. The individual tends not to think outside about the case. This individual’s musings are composed. Their psyche resembles a perfect office. Everything in the workplace is flawless and sorted out. All the documents in the workplace are marked. The records being sorted out in the workplace is the consecutive quality. The documents are sorted out in a specific request. The individual realizes where everything is in the workplace. The individual is sound. This individual will in general comprehend things as they seem to be. It makes since to them since they are intelligent. The left-mind prevailing individual is scientific. This individual can isolate the various pieces to investigation the subject. This strength can be objective. They can relate questions comprehend the whole picture. Templeton (2013) found that â€Å"In composing, it is the left-cerebrum that focuses on mechanics, for example, spelling, understanding, and accentuation. In any case, the correct side focuses on rationality and implying that is, your correct cerebrum discloses to you it ‘feels right’† (para. 6). A left-mind prevailing individual experiences more difficulty composing. This is on the grounds that the individual experiences difficulty catching the importance of what the individual needs to state inside his announcement. The individual may begin his contention however may not complete it. This is because of the absence of having the option to catch what is proposed due to significance. Templeton (2013) demonstrates that a left-mind predominant individual is bound to be a superior speller. Math issues will be simpler for this individual. The left-cerebrum prevailing individual can do a math issue all together seeing how to find to the solution. Science classes are commonly simpler, in light of the fact that the individual can work out the examination piece by piece (para. 3, 5, and 6). This encourages him to make it to the end state simpler. The right-cerebrum predominant individual as indicated by On Purpose Associates (2012) is â€Å"random, natural, all encompassing, combining, emotional, takes a gander at wholes† (para. 2). A right-cerebrum prevailing individual is irregular. There is no arrangement or target. The individual goes haphazardly starting with one assignment then onto the next. The individual doesn't keep a composed calendar. A right-cerebrum prevailing individual is inventive. This individual can look outside of the crate for answers for an issue. A left-mind prevailing individual is more averse. This individual doesn't separate things to investigation the various parts. The individual just observes the comprehensive view. The right-cerebrum predominant individual lets others push him around. He considers things to be they are and doesn't challenge them. A right-cerebrum prevailing individual considers everything to be an entirety. The individual just observes the endpoint. He may not comprehend anything in the middle. Templeton (2013) recommends that a right-cerebrum individual is more averse to have the option to gain successfully from a talk (para. 2). Most talks don't arrive at the resolution until the end. The explanation is on the grounds that one of the qualities of a right-cerebrum prevailing individual is considering everything to be an entirety. A talk can be hard for him to appreciate. The understudy begins with the appropriate response working in reverse. Templeton (2013) recommends that right-mind prevailing understudies will prevail in classes that are hands-on (para. 5). Classes, for example, science, carpentry, mechanics, and shop are on the whole instances of classes where right-cerebrum predominant understudies will adapt successfully. Right-mind prevailing understudies will likewise be effective recorded as a hard copy papers. This obviously shows the student’s cerebrum strength is a factor when a learning style is concerned. â€Å"Each understudy forms and retains new data in an alternate manner. Distinguishing learning styles and encouraging those learning styles can build scholarly accomplishment and improve perspectives towards learning† (Green, 1999, p. 684). Every understudy needs to figure out what his best inclining style is. The learning style decides how well and how quick they can hold the data. Changes can be made to improve the student’s learning capacity. Bransford, Brown, and Cocking (1999) recommends that various strategies can be utilized in subjects, for example, math for the understudy to all the more likely comprehend the subject (p. 169). In math models can be utilized to clarify the condition and the means to find the solution. For addresses instructors can give foundation data preceding the introduction. This will enable a few understudies to work in reverse to have the option to see the end. Left-cerebrum predominant understudies working on composing, will encounter an expansion in their composing capacity. Pfabigan, Alexopoulos, and Sailer (n. d. ) propose that it is conceivable that a person’s prevailing side of the cerebrum can make them be reserved, yet isn't likely. The outcomes from the examination are excessively close for the privilege and left side of the equator of the cerebrum, to verify that antisocialism is from mind strength (para. 12). It’s almost certain that antisocialism is hereditary, not from mind strength. Being reserved can be contrasted with a dread. The main method of beating a dread is be doing it. For somebody that is withdrawn the best activity is go out and defeated it. That individual should converse with the outsider in line at the market. When on an extended get-away the individual should converse with outsiders. The individual should put themself out there. Taking everything into account left and right-cerebrum predominance can influence the manner in which somebody learns. Somebody who is left-cerebrum predominant is progressively intelligent. Their contemplations and cerebrum process is flawless and composed. The left-mind prevailing individual is bound to have issues composing. This can be conquered like any shortcoming. The right-cerebrum predominant individual is imaginative. He can look outside of the circumstance to take care of the issue. He isn't driven essentially by rationale. The right-mind prevailing individual may have issues following talks. The talk may lose the student’s intrigue. He is a hands-on student. He should be a piece of an exhibit, or get things done with his hands to completely get ideas. A class, for example, science that is for the most part hands on exercises is a superior class for somebody who is correct mind prevailing. The most ideal approach to learn is for the understudy to realize his learning style and use it. Solitary people is more and likely hereditary. The understudy can defeat this test. The understudy should work at it, however like whatever else this can change. References Bransford, J. ; Brown, L. ; and Cocking R. (1999). How People Learn: Brain, Mind, Experience, and School. Chronic Condition Why Canada s Health Care System

Critical Book Review – Chronic Condition: Why Canada’s Health-Care System Needs to be Dragged into the 21st Century By: Navia Kumar Student ID#: 20571425 TA: Aisha Shibli Chronic Condition was an enthralling book to read. Most Canadians, myself included, take our health care system and how it came into existence for granted, so learning about the controversies and issues surrounding its creation are fascinating to learn about. This book went into great detail about the trials and tribulations that were faced in order to create the health care system that Canadians today have. When living next to a country that loudly boasts about its freedom and other such aspects, it is hard to stand out on a global level. That is why most citizens are misguided when they try to compare our health system to that of the United States. Indeed, if you look at the facts, we do have a better system but it is quite irrelevant to compare the two since we are both organized and financed differently. The United States spends more money on their system but does not reap the benefits that more money should offer. Often, the only gain from the comparison is a political one. The federal government’s as well as the provincial governments’ funding has lead to the provinces being too hospital heavy, meaning that there aren t enough low cost/more efficient facilities in existence such as long-term care facilities, which causes more patients to go to the hospital, which in turn causes more money to be spent than if the patient had been able to go elsewhere. Two key reasons why our health care system is so expensive are the cost of the drugs and the compensation that doctors receive. In order to keep up with the rising cost of our health care, Dalton McGuinty privatized services like physiotherapy and optometry and, â€Å"†¦Also froze the budgets of twelve departments other tha n health. There was the classic health-care spending trifecta: higher

Initially, certain accidents and injuries within industries were accepted and considered a consequence of the job, eventually workers became less accepting of inadequate working conditions began demanding safer work environments. Therefore, numerous labor unions and organizations formed throughout the history of the United States intended to resolve and mediate issues between employees and employers, including the health and s afety of the workers in the workplace. Analysis Of The Poem Spring Offensive - 1155 Words

Another one of Owen’s famous poems, â€Å"Spring Offensive†, refers to a surprise attack on enemy forces that turns into a bloodbath. In the first line Owen immediately lays out the setting. The soldiers are on a hill and â€Å"nature [is] in [a] beneficent mood† (Spring Offensive). in the second line he says that this puts the soldiers in a beneficial mood as well (Spring Offensive). In the third line, the troops are touching shows that they have complete faith in one another and this creates a sense of camaraderie in the poem. In line four there is a â€Å"mood change† because â€Å"Some men stand, unable to sleep like the rest† (Spring Offensive). This shows some unrest in the men themselves as well as the looming battle about to ensue. The fifth and sixth line signify that nature is abruptly becoming less kind to the soldiers and many of the men feel that they may die on this hill. However there is another mood change at lines six and seven: à ¢â‚¬Å"Nature shows a smiling face again, the ‘long grass swirled’ in the ‘May breeze’† (Spring Offensive). The entire stanza â€Å"ebbs and flows† with nature’s changing moods. The next part of the poem still maintains this tranquil mood by painting vivid images of nature (Spring Offensive). The troops are walking through a meadow and buttercups become stuck to the men’s shoes making them â€Å"Blessed with gold.† This is a direct reference to when Owen said that his brother’s shoes â€Å"are blessed with gold’† after some flowers became glued to his shoes. Conspiracy Theories Related to the Assassination of John...

On the 22nd of November 1963, the 35th president of the United States of America, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Lee Harvey Oswald was charged with the crime, but was shot and killed two days later by Jack Ruby before he could be taken to trial. The Warren Commission officially determined that Oswald was the lone assassin, however, this conclusion has not been accepted by many. In fact, a 2003 poll reported that 75% of Americans do not believe that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. Most believe that the assassination was the result of a conspiracy, though these same polls also show that there is no agreement on who else might have been involved. Most put forward the idea of involved parties such as Castro†¦show more content†¦forces to participate in the armys Bay of Pigs invasion, which left thousands killed or imprisoned by the Castro regime, and therefore they assassinated him. Also, in the aftermath of the Cuban missile crisis it was widely beli eved Kennedy guaranteed the Russians that Cuba would be left untouched in return for a withdrawal of Soviet missiles from the island, though the Cuban exiles were not consulted. These men had Kennedy assassinated, and left Oswald, who was somehow duped into following them, as the patsy. This is most likely the weakest theory. While the exiles had the means and reason to kill Kennedy, and little to lose, it seems impossible that they could have escaped the police, covered up their role, and arranged for Ruby to silence Oswald. The theory of the Mafia being responsible requires a deeper look into the policies of Kennedy and his brother, Robert. The Kennedys took a much more aggressive attitude against organized crime than previous presidents. Robert Kennedy was intensely disliked by Teamsters Union boss Jimmy Hoffa, as well as other mafia members. Its clear that the mafia had the desire and the resources to fell Kennedy, and with him, his troublesome brother. Then it recognizes the major light touch control initiatives at the global and national level. Between the different control measures and institutions in Australia, there is a huge deal of overlap and might take part in multiple optional social and environmental creativities. The Corporations Act 2001 is the core section of regulations ruling directors' roles. There exist two particular elements that broadly known in the act as increasing company reporting in a way that associates to CSR. Part 1013D of the Act inflicts responsibilities on superannuation, life insurance and controlled funds to show the level which they take consideration of environmental, communal, labor and moral standards in their investment settlement. In section 299 the institut ion is required to incorporate in their annual reports particulars of environmental laws and permits. Although, debate encircles the level to which Australian organization directors can consider the attentiveness of stakeholders other than instant shareholders. Extra responsibilities on organizations are imposed by the legislation other than the Corporations Act and their directors in association with workers and environment. For instance, institutions must pay their employees a minimum of at least pay 27, and they must conform to professional health and safety, anti-bias and same chance requirements. Institutions should also adjust to a broad range of environmental needs Light touch control creative in Australia Government creative one of the most famous CSR creative at the federal standard is the prime minister's business community association. The organization was built in 1988 and is a group of known Australians from the community and trade parts which are allocated the duties of promoting community business associations, behaving as a think tank on charitable matters, and advocating corporate allowing and CSR. This is done through three streams of interest's promotion of the business occurrence for CSR and for associations between business and community, acceleration through providing information, and identification of prosperous CSR through a prize program (Hitt, 2017). The Prime Minister's production of corporate citizenship is very limited. Consequently, it is seen as there is very less obligatory CSR or mandatory announcement of CSR activities in Australia. The Parliamentary Joint Committee finished that change to directors' roles was not needed and there should be the continuance of the free approach to sustainability announcement. It advocates that while in the committee's view it is not suitable to instruct the consideration of stakeholder attentiveness into director's roles, there is the requirement to consider choices earnestly to encourage bigger uptake and revelation of corporate responsibility interests. Treaties, conventions or agreements have impacted on the products or services that multinational company provides in Australia. A treaty is a consensus between countries or states which are unbreakable at global law. In some cases, global businesses can be parties to agreements. A settlement between an Australian State of Territory and an overseas Government will not, consequently, be a deal. Even if a document it concurs between two or more sovereign nations, it will not be an agreement only if those countries' intentions are that the document is binding at global law. An agreement might also be called a treaty, convention, protocol, or exchange of letters. A treaty can be between two countries like Australia and another country. A flight consensus between Australia and the United States is one instance. Multilateral agreements are the ones that are between three or more nations: For example the United Nations Charter. Multilateral treaties are usually built under the auspices of global intergovernmental companies like the United Nations or the global labor organization, but multilateral territorial treaties like the Convention for the security of the Natural Resources and Environment of the South Pacific Region are of development significance for Australia (De, 2017). Australia has been energetic in arranging multilateral and bilateral treaties. In the year 1994 31st December Australia entered into 2289 agreements of which 1303 were bilateral and 986 were multilateral. The Treaties occupy a broad range of topics. Only a less deal with a lawsuit process private international law. Nevertheless, there are many agreements deal with cross-border commerce, typically on an industry or trade control basis. For instance, there are some treaties on agriculture, commodities fisheries, etc. psychological property, maritime matters, telecommunications and tax, etc. There are also a huge number of trade agreements. These are usually bilateral apart from the treaties about GATT or the World Trade Organization (WTO) which are multilateral (Green, 2008). With honor to lawsuit process, Australia has accessed or acceded to some of the bilateral agreements on service of procedures and a mutual identification of judgments. At the multilateral standard, Australia has a lso obtained the Hague proof agreement but has not yet accessed the Hague Service Conventions. Impact of treaties on Australian industry and business The Australian frugality profoundly depends on global skill. As the respite of globe precedes advancing setting up global interchange treaties, we cant anticipate keeping our proportion of development by action alone. We have to ensure a firm grip on growths in the global coordination to make Australian corporate and production to take part wholly in the globalization of the global budget. The 1994 Contract building the global craft organization, to which we are the revelry, is critical in this honor. Central treaties arranged under the World Trade Organization treaty are reviewed Universal Agreement on Trade and Tariffs; the universal treaty on trade in the services; and agreement on Trade associated features of psychological property rights. Joint, these deals will end up in estimated expansion in Australian Exports of $A5 billion and Australian GDP of A4.4 billion by the year two thousand and two. These are first multilateral trade treaties yet territorial, and bilateral trade agr eements also make part of our non-segregated approach to global commerce (Stevens, 2013). These treaties also motivate global investment in Australia (Price, 2007). We also have bilateral investment protection agreements with ten nations whose actions are single building mechanisms for investors and secure the attentiveness of Australian investors abroad. Fair entrance to the universal's natural resources is ruled more than ever by global agreements. The United Nations Law of the Sea agreement, for instance, in the dialogue of which Australia played a crucial position, builds internationally accepted government for entry to the resources of the sea and the seabed with 200 maritime sole economic zones. And the list continues civil aviation treaties, telecommunications agreements, postal conventions customs conventions and the same all run to assist and facilitate global trade and commerce. The advantages are immense, to Australia definitely, yet also to the region and the globe. References HARVEY, C. E. (1981). NIMS and ICS Models benefits to the State

Introduction When a distress call comes and someone needs your help you, as the person in charge of a department related to disaster management, are tasked with formulation of a response on how you can help or contain the impending or the ongoing disaster. Thus, it is very important to have good communication and coordination for the disaster to be managed successfully.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on NIMS and ICS Models benefits to the State-Level Homeland Security Procedure specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Most of the times, many people overlook the need to have a coordinated system as most assume that a disaster may never occur to them. The people involved in both ends of the spectrum needs to find a way of communicating so as to enable the disaster manager to plan for the best mitigation processes. As Hicks (2006) states, â€Å"The problem is that many business and industrial sites engage in emergen cy planning without the inclusion of the emergency responders.†(p6) The lack of involvement as has been experienced in the past has led to reduced communication and coordination in cases of disasters leaving manageable crisis destroying property worth millions and losses of lives in some situations. To control and avoid the re-occurrence of disasters due to low (or none) communication and coordination experienced in the past within the country, the president saw the importance of every party involved working together and thus issued a directive to the formation of NIMS as developed by the Department of Homeland Security. The ICS Model: (Incident Command System) Back in 1971 the state of California was faced with issues on how they could coordinate in the issues of wild land fire fighting and thus they developed the ICS model. They created an organization by the name of FIRESCOPE (Firefighting Resources of California Organized for Potential Emergencies). The organization covere d essential requirements in managing the problematic incidents by creating a team effort with the aim of solving problems that may arise in the future. The ICS has been refined, improved, and adopted in the other American states but its basic goals have always remained the same.Advertising Looking for research paper on government? Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More NIMS Model: (National Incident Management System) This a system that provides a national platform to enable all the concerned stakeholders be it the federal, state, country or even the village private and non private sectors work together in an effort to respond, prepare or even prevent a disaster regardless of the nature of the disaster itself (Naake, 2003). The main goals of NIMS as stated by Hicks (2006) were to â€Å"Make standardized procedures, planning, training, and exercising; qualify emergency personnel; make communication systems and procedures interoperabl e and establish information and communication technologies.† (p6) The above systems have helped in adding accountability, transparency and systematic coordination among the relevant departments in the United States in case of occurrence of any disaster. The Advantages of Communication and Information Management Systems: Since the communication language is the same it ensures consistency in the response thus helping business or other parties that may be in need of help recover fast as it allows them to communicate their problems and concerns at all the necessary levels. When communication and coordination is integrated, the responding departments will manage the disasters in a way that reduces interruption of the business, time for recovery and also the recovery costs will be minimal preventing incurring of big losses. The ICS and the NIMS systems also enhance greater efficiency as they are specifically designed to direct and coordinate efforts in the event of a disaster or a c risis of any type. The coordination among the different departments for example in case of fire, a quick response from the cops, the medics and the fire fighting department within a state can help save lives and salvage properties in the verge of consumption by the fire. Thus, by using similar language terminologies, the involved parties are able to respond and understand the needs of the other parties thus a quicker action is taken to control the disaster. Management of Resources The coordination and oversight of equipments, procedures, and required systems that usually provide the disaster manager with timely and enough resources during an incident is all resource management entails during disaster management. The procedure involves describing, recording, requesting (if not available), and keeping a close eye on how the resources are used before, during, and after an incident.Advertising We will write a custom research paper sample on NIMS and ICS Models benefits to the State -Level Homeland Security Procedure specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The improved communication system also allows for faster mobilization, allocation, use and recalling of some of the needed resources during a crisis while at the same time reducing the time needed in accessing any required aid and assistance resources. It is a very important task as it can make or destroy everything involved. Multi Agency Coordination The combination of equipment, personnel and procedures among other processes into a common system that allows the integration between the local and even the state emergency units in case a crisis occurs and external assistance is needed is a major benefit of the ICS/ NIMS systems. Coordination of activities and prioritization of demands needed or competing made by the distress callers is another major advantage. The multi agency coordination also enhances in the identification of future resources that may be needed in ma naging a disaster and also strategic coordination among the states, tribes, and even the countries (FEMA, 2004). Conclusion Disaster management is a major issue that need to be looked into although most of the times people overlook it. With the increasing risks of disasters occurring, for example, due to fire or terrorism activities we can conclude that the United States of America authorities have been looking into this matter as can be evidenced by the introduction of the ICS and the NIMS systems, which aid in communication and response between the respondents and disaster managers. If these two tools are used effectively, disaster management will be an easy task as there will be increased communication and coordination among the involved departments. Reference List FEMA. Purpose of Urban Greenbelts

Purpose of Urban Greenbelts The term â€Å"greenbelt† refers to any area of undeveloped natural land that has been set aside near urban or developed land to provide open space, offer light recreational opportunities, or contain development. And, yes, the natural greenbelts along areas of Southeast Asia’s coastlines, including the region’s mangrove forests, served as buffers and helped to prevent even greater loss of life from the December 2004 tsunami. The Importance of Greenbelts in Urban Areas Greenbelts in and around urban areas have probably not saved any lives, but they are important nonetheless to the ecological health of any given region. The various plants and trees in greenbelts serve as organic sponges for various forms of pollution, and as storehouses of carbon dioxide to help offset global climate change. â€Å"Trees are an important part of the city infrastructure,† says Gary Moll of American Forests. Because of the many benefits trees provide to cities, Moll likes to refer to them as the â€Å"ultimate urban multi-taskers.† Urban Greenbelts Provide Links to Nature Greenbelts are also important to help urban dwellers feel more connected to nature. Dr. S.C. Sharma of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in India believes that all cities should â€Å"earmark certain areas for the development of greenbelts [to] bring life and color to the concrete jungle and [a] healthy environment to the urbanites.† While urban living may hold important advantages over rural living, feeling disconnected from nature is a serious drawback of city life. Greenbelts Help to Limit Urban Sprawl Greenbelts are also important in efforts to limit sprawl, which is the tendency for cities to spread out and encroach on rural lands and wildlife habitat. Three U.S. states- Oregon, Washington,  and Tennessee- require their largest cities to establish so-called â€Å"urban growth boundaries† to limit sprawl through the establishment of planned greenbelts. Meanwhile, the cities of Minneapolis, Virginia Beach, Miami,  and Anchorage have created urban growth boundaries on their own. In California’s Bay Area, the nonprofit Greenbelt Alliance has successfully lobbied for the establishment of 21 urban growth boundaries across four counties surrounding the city of San Francisco. Greenbelts Around the World The concept has also caught on in Canada, with the cities of Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver adopting similar mandates for the creation of greenbelts to improve land use. Urban greenbelts can also be found in and around larger cities in Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. Are Greenbelts Essential to World Peace? The greenbelt concept has even spread to rural areas, such as those in East Africa. Womens’ rights and environmental activist Wangari Maathai launched the Green Belt Movement in Kenya in 1977 as a grassroots tree-planting program to address the challenges of deforestation, soil erosion and lack of water in her home country. To date, her organization has overseen the planting of 40 million trees across Africa. In 2004, Maathai was the first environmentalist to be awarded the prestigious Nobel Peace Prize. Why peace? â€Å"There can be no peace without equitable development, and there can be no development without sustainable management of the environment in a democratic and peaceful space,† said Maathai in her Nobel acceptance speech. E-commerce Web site evaluation Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

E-commerce Web site evaluation - Essay Example The words car and audio do not figure independently within the meta tags for keywords. This site would hardly be picked up by search engines if someone is looking for something as specific as ‘car audio systems in Lancashire’. Google did not. At least not in the first three pages of the search results. The basic point is that the homepage fails to convey instantaneously what it is all about, a major lapse in presentation. Not a good first impression. But let us take things one at a time, and try to evaluate the website from the perspective of the most important features that any worthwhile e-Commerce website should possess. The concept of usability, which is concerned with making software systems easy to learn and easy to use, has recently gained increased attention with the development and wide diffusion of end-user interactive software applications (Dray 1995, p. 18). Navigation, hyperlink positioning, clear demarcation of advertisement area from content area, use of colour codes and continuity in design are some of aspects on which the usability of a website depends. The website under evaluation does not distinguish in anyway between hypertext and ordinary text. Though underlining of the hyperlinks is not necessary as they are placed in the conventional left hand navigation bar, the font and colour of the hyperlinks are exactly the same as other text used in the site resulting in the impression that the address of the firm are also hyperlinks. There is also no difference between visited and unvisited links. This goes against the basics of website navigability: The way the website displays its products looks very much like the advertisements or company logo that it carries. Advertisement area and content areas are not demarcated. The danger in this case lies in how users tend to scan web pages: ‘Most famously, users exhibit incredibly powerful "banner blindness." Eye-tracking studies have recorded microseconds-long

Case for School Uniforms Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Case for School Uniforms - Essay Example Alicia harangues on the economic consequences of introducing school uniforms by declaring that â€Å"the uniforms don’t seem quite so affordable.† As per Alicia’s logic, school uniforms amount to an added financial burden on an average middle class family and many families find it really costly to purchase uniforms for their progeny. Even a cursory online analysis of the price catalogues of some of the famous economy stores will amply testify to the fact that school uniforms are not that dearer as Alicia deems them to be. Besides, in the long run, making children wear uniforms to school turns out to be cheaper than helping them afford an assorted wardrobe catering to their school dressing needs and requirements. School uniforms relieve the parents and the students of tons of financial pressure and burden with everyone knowing that they have to wear the same clothes to school every day. Alicia also tends to hold that even if schools uniforms ameliorate the â€Å" best clothes competition (Thomas, 2009)†, they do usher in a more damaging â€Å"the best body competition. † Her logic is that students who are thin or husky may not be able to choose clothes that tone down their bodily aberrations and hence may suffer from guilt or many types of complexes. The fact is that this argument put forward by Alicia is facile and immature. Everybody knows that in the real world nobody is perfect and that most of the people do tend to have the so called physical, mental or social limitations.
